Hey I have recently been having problems with my Windows 7 x64.

When playing games and then Alt-Tabbing I get SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION BSOD. Memory comes out fine running memtest86 and this has only started really happening with my new Windows 7 installation.

I reinstalled Windows 7 about 2 months ago and this copy is the same as my last one.

This is a proper MSDN copy of Windows 7 Professional x64.


All help is appreciated.

edit: Just to clear, I am overclocked but I don't think this is as issue as I have been overclocked for a long time and it happens whether I'm overclocked or not.

First of all, remove all unnecessary hardware devices from the computer, try entering Windows safe mode to test whether it is a third-party software/hardware compatibility issue. If so, please download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the reason for the issue. If the issue is caused by some incompatible driver, you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software. Otherwise, you can run the game .exe file as Administrator or directly contact its own support to solve hte problem in timely manner.

If you still get the BSOD error after installing the latest driver, please understand that Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a hardware device, third-party drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).

The system goes to a blue screen because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).

To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.

All of these crashes are blamed on varioius things but all of them point to a memory exception (first Param C0000005) is a memory exception.

To test your memory
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

I also noticed that you have a few old drivers that are from before win 7 was released. They really should be updated.

To add to Ken's spot on advice, The 2005 version of [FONT=&quot]ASACPI.sys [/FONT] is a known BSOD cause. Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down). Download and install it.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

The only thing I really had to update out of all that was ASACPI

I installed the latest ATK0110 and it is now stamped 2009 but still getting the same problem. I'm going to run memtest86 overnight, although I did run it a couple months ago with no errors so I'm not too confident I'm going to get any now.

Is it possible for a graphics card to be causing these issues?

That is certainly a possibility. Did you update all of the drivers that Ken listed? Win 7 does not like older drivers.

Ok. I ran memtest and got 8 passes and 0 errors.

The .sys files i didnt update were a couple of weird amd driver thing which i would say was for catalyst, which is up to date, the rtk one because it was timestamped 09 and one which was one that is built in windows

I also forgot to mention. Ive been having issues with my video card coming up with weird colours and freezing but wont come up with any errors in occt

If you can, update RTKVHD64.sys. The magic date for Win 7 is July 13, 2009. Non-MS drivers earlier than this date are old drivers, though some of them may work fine.

edit: ran prime95 blend test for about 8 hours and had no issues.

Please upload the latest BSOD.

How many of the drivers that ZigZag listed as being out of date, have you upgraded? We need to know what you have done in order to further help you.

It looks like your RAM is fine; that is good. Your video card may be a driver issue. I had to try five drivers before I got my card to work properly.
