Hi friends, I have some Compiled VB6 projects installed on my Windows 7 laptop. (Mostly copies of Software supplied to the clients) They would be working fine, then all of a sudden, may be after weeks, or months, I get an error when launching the software 'Unrecognized database format' On checking the database manually, I see one or more tables are disappeared. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

What version of Access are you using. In Access 2013, you can repair & compact the database by clicking on File at the top LH corner & when that opens you will see under Info, Compact & Repair, click on that.

Compacting the database will definitely reduce the size it uses on your hard drive & usually speeds up the opening time as well.

You could also try repairing Office. To do that open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office, Right Click on it & select Change, that will open a couple of Repair opens to try.

It is Access 2007

Thank you for the Response. I don't have much use of Office, so I am using an older version, Access 2007
on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit Lappy, just for backups of software I had Compiled in my old XP machine and supplied to the clients. The weird thing is there are quite a few such software installed and running fine.
The problem happened for one software in November last. This is the second instance two days back.
there are others still working OK. My reasoning is, if the problem was with access all the software would have crashed. Why this is happening at random? Is it any Windows 7 quirks? (I checked with the client who is using the software on Windows 7 32bit. He don't have any problem.

More than fixing the issue on my machine, I am interested to know the probable cause, so that if this happens to any of my clients, I would have a solution handy. Any advice appreciated.

Read through this MS website on why you need to Repair & Compact a database from time to time. It's possible for parts of the database to become corrupted over time & regular maintenance helps prevent this.

It also tells you how to Compact & Repair Access 2007, so follow the recommendations & see how you go.

I think when you read through the information you will see the reasons why yours may have developed some problems & you can use that advice for your customers.

My DB Not Working, anyway the solution useful.

What you had provided me is a precautionary measure. The particular DB I had complained about had already lost the tables. Obviously, the precautionary solutions cannot retrieve the lost part. Anyway, it was a DB with demo data only.

I am planning to advise the client(Custom software, Single Client), who runs the actual data, to apply the precautionary measure. I am planning to do a auto-compact on his database.

Thank you again for the useful advice.
