Tablet PCs / Slates Don’t Support Windows 7 Taskbar Auto-Hiding

Users of touch-enabled computers running Windows 7 are bound to notice that one element of the operating system’s functionality is missing from their machines.

Microsoft confirmed that computers for which touch screens are used as the main interaction model, such as Tablet PCs or slates, do not feature support for auto-hiding the Windows 7 Taskbar.

However, this detail is not really a bug, and instead it’s more of a feature. The Redmond company’s explanation is that whereas it’s simple to un-hide the taskbar using a keyboard or a mouse, it’s less simple and even impossible to do the same with a finger or a pen.

Meh, I don't like hiding it, pretty irritating to not see it, at least for me.

Screen size is likely a determining factor as to whether you hide it or not. I have 2 19 inch LCDs, hiding it doesn't really serve a purpose for me. The only time I don't want to see it is while playing a game and its not there anyway. My step daughter however, has a netbook with a single small display. She hides it to get every pixel available to display her social networking apps, of which see runs several all at the same time.

Issue is, one thing is you to point your mouse over an area until the taskbar shows up. Another thing is to keep your finger over an area until the taskbar shows up.
