so when i have the nvme its decent speeds to boot. no complaints. like any sata ssd in another pc. I only have an nvme as main device

but when I connect a hdd, it hangs on bios post screen for like 30 seconds..maybe less, then loads

now its on the win 10 icon and just hanging on that for another 30 seconds then finally loads the os. something is off

the pc is not connected online ever. it is for editing only. this issue has not happened before

you could check the disk with the manufacturer's tool if there is one or hddscan or diskgenius free version

I agree. The OP needs to check the health of the SATA drive. If there is a problem with the drive or it is failing then it would cause the boot to take a long time. CrystalDiskInfo can also be used to show the disk's health.
