Solved TalkTalk Internet speed

Hi,Been with talktalk now for some time been working okay.So I decided to upgrade my package with them as they were pestering me all the time.
Any way I decided to do a speed test of my existing package and used the Global speed test.
And the results that I had were:

Download Speed was 7.1mbps
Upload speed was 0.2mbps
On looking at those figures that sounded very low as a pal of mine with BT is having download speed of 15.6mbps and upload speed of 4.3mbps test on both were the global speed test
Does anyone have any thoughts on that Please

I was under the impression they gave the max possible speed.

You can call them and complain.. But i reckon it wont do much good Internet Service Providers always have a good excuse .. They will state that it is based on average speed .. Depending on what time of the day/night the net is used .. What is even worse is that you have taken out a new Contract.. So you cant really say to them that if things dont improve that you are going to cancel .. But saying all that if it was me i would still complain

Most welcome .. Silly sort of question this but i have to ask .. It is Fibre you have ? ... Yes the weather is great long may it last

Basically from what I can remember in my pre fibre days, there was ADSL1 which I had and this theoretically could give a maximum speed of 8 Meg, but after overheads then anything over 7 meg was pretty darn good.
A while back ADSL2+ was released which could then offer speeds of up to 24 Meg depending on how close you lived to the exchange, I signed up for this and got around 15 Meg.
Then fibre came to my area and the rest is history.

It sounds to me like you are still on ADSL1, you need to check if you can get ADSL2+ where you live and if you can then ask TalkTalk to put you onto that. You may need a new router depending on how old yours is.

Is 15Mb an advertised speed? can't find it and not come across it before. Also I have no faith in Talk Talk from years of experience, they did try to install fibre speeds in this area a few years back, problem-no fibre in the area ! took peeps money though and sent out new routers.

Well after a heated conversation with talktalk they said that I would get an email in 24hours,And within 2 hours I was told to make a few clicks on my pc and low and behold the speed test is now showing 16.4mbps that is a lot better than yesterday.
Advice threrating them does work.

Exchange boxes normally run on DLM (Dynamic Line Management) which caps your internet speed in order to maintain stability. DLM causes about 90% of the speed problems people face with broadband companies, what makes it worse is when people unplug their routers and restart it since the exchange thinks this is could be a line error so it then caps the speed even further to try and make it stable, however without it no ones connection would stay connected so a bit of a double edged sword eh?

Although automated they can change it if you complain enough
