Is there something that will write to a log or similar, all the processes opened and closed within a certain timeframe?

Not quite. I want something, a program even, that will show all the tasks I open and close in a certain time period (while the program is open would be good).

Windows 7 has Problem Step Recorder built in but I don't think that's what you are looking for either.
