This thread is a continuance of my posts in the *Ultramon Replacement* thread.

I've seen over 5 people willing to be guinea pigs.. err.. I mean pre-beta testers for Task Se7en. Monday, May 4 I will post a link to Task Se7en for anyone wanting to check it out.

For those of you just tuning in..

Task Se7en is a multi-monitor taskbar application, like the Windows taskbar, but written specifically for Windows 7. It doesn't, yet, have all of the cool features of Ultramon or DisplayFusion. But, it's only in its infancy and will grow with time.

For those of you would be, future beta testers of Task Se7en... In advanced, thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Why does the 2nd taskbar have a clock as well as the first?

Also if possible could you add a button alongside the min/max/close buttons that maximises across all monitors?

I was curious about the clock thing as well, mostly because it's something I haven't seen past programs do (DF/UM, etc.); I was wondering if it was a byproduct of using WDM and/or something that was making it easier for you to emulate that W7 taskbar (comapred to w/e else DF/UM are doing).

Looking good though, I'm setting up a new system this weekend and after I've got it up and running smoothly with Vista I'll probably create a new partition to try the Windows 7 RC1 next week, I'll be in for testing Task Se7en then (I just wanna make sure all my stuff is working in Vista first and that the system is stable before messing w/W7 :p ).

While I'm also testing DF, I see these as potentially two different target audiances: DF being more of a suite (wallpaper switcher, macro capable, taskbar, etc) and Task Se7en as a stand alone taskbar. (it's a big world out there :)).

Oh, definitely KEEP the second clock! I spend a LOT of time on the second monitor and a clock there (kind of where you expect it to be) is much needed. With the new wide-screen monitors, it's a long way back to the main monitor sometimes!

I have a question: Can it auto-hide? And if so, does it auto-hide independently from the system task bar on the primary monitor?

(And, yes, I like the idea of two clocks, too.)

I have a pair of 24" 16:10 screens, the left one almost always in portrait mode (1200w x 1920h) and the right one almost always in landscape mode except occasionally when I'm editing an image that is vertically oriented.

DITTO.. Plz keep it there.. Basically the bar should look like its stretched across both monitors.. (ie: The System Tray and clock should be on the 2nd monitor)

I am now posting in this thread as requested.

I am running 2 Windows 7 RC1 (b7100) systems, both with dual monitors. One with ATI x1300 and dual Dell 19"'s, and the other with, NVIDIA Quatro (Dell Latitude 620) and dual Dell 17"'s.

Please post or PM when the pre-beta of Task Se7en is available.

Thanks for you efforts, right after I installed Win 7 RC I started looking for something like this.. glad I found you!

Best

Hi there, thanks in advance for your work! Is higly appreciated!

I'm running Windows 7 RC1 (b7100) x64 on a Q6600, 8Gb 1066Mhz ram, ATI HD3870 512Mb and dual 24" dell.

Can I be a betatester of task Se7en? I'm attending to the last year of a computer science degree in an Italian University...

Thanks

I put the clock in Task Se7en for the same reason that many of you want me to keep it there. I did however, put a little button at the right edge of the clock that lets you hide it.

"Also if possible could you add a button alongside the min/max/close buttons that maximises across all monitors?"

I've been looking into an idea like that. Non-client drawing is such a pain in the ass to do, although I won't give up on it. (Don't hold your breath for that to make it into the pre-beta ;))

"Can it auto-hide? And if so, does it auto-hide independently from the system task bar on the primary monitor?"

Yes. Task Se7en can auto hide and it can do it independent of the system taskbar.

"DITTO.. Plz keep it there.. Basically the bar should look like its stretched across both monitors.. (ie: The System Tray and clock should be on the 2nd monitor)"

I can't place the actual system tray onto Task Se7en as the system tray is not a window that can be moved via API calls. - Same goes for the buttons on Task Se7en. They can not be dragged/dropped onto the system taskbar and vice versa. Actually, at the moment, Task Se7en doesn't support any drag/drop at all. This will change though. I have pretty big plans for Task Se7en :D

I'll be constantly tweaking the appearance of Task Se7en over the next year or so - at least until Windows 7 goes RTM. This pre-beta build will be geared towards Windows 7 build 7077 as that is the build that I am currently running. I am not going to support older Windows 7 builds (in the looks department) and when I upgrade my Windows build I'll make any appropriate changes to Task Se7en to keep it matching the look of the OS.

You can do that in Windows by telling him to create a "virtual" single large monitor.

At this point, no. But, it's a feature that I certainly want to implement. It's just that at this point in time it's not high on the priority list.

I want Task Se7en to be as stable as possible before beginning to implement any of the cool features that UM/DF provide. Task Se7en is only about 4 months into development right now but, I think, that from the screen shot that I posted most people can see that it's headed in a pretty good direction already.

One thing that I have began to implement is pinned shortcut buttons like in the native Windows 7 taskbar. I don't know if they will be supported in the first pre-beta release or not. It's just a matter of how much time I have to spend on it while trying to get an installer together, etc. before Monday.

Now there's a feature that should be standard with Windows 7, what with so many of us using Dual Monitors :p

I'm currently working on an installer for the pre-beta release of Task Se7en... It could be as soon as Sunday, May 3 2009 when I release it :D. So far everything has been going well...

Not to be offensive but, to be quite blunt - HELL NO!

The only open source project that I've been remotely involved with (if you want to call it that) is GeckoFx - an almost, drop-in replacement for the IE ActiveX control. GeckoFX is a "Firefox" web browser control provided by Skybound Software (I have no professional affiliation with them). If you are interested in GeckoFX you can find more information at the following forum: http://geckofx.org . I don't mean to detract from the point of this thread but, if you are a .NET developer and are looking for an IE replacement then look no further than GeckoFX. It's a one of a kind wrapper around the XULRunner runtime and should not be over looked. You'll find my screen name plastered all over that forum ;) !...

I'll tell Andrew, the forum moderator, to keep on the lookout for new recruits... :D
