Solved Task tray notifications don't appear - have already tried the obvious!

Hi there,

Have spent most of today (Sunday) trying to solve this problem, and am no closer to solving it than when I first started.

I've got a new PC set up on Windows 7 64-bit, and none of the icons in the task tray will show notifications. I've already gone to the task bar properties and made sure notifications were turned on, as well as tried everything suggested in this thread:

I've got several AutoIt/AutoHotkey scripts that display to me a lot of important information through these notifications, so not having them on is causing me a lot of grief I have tried these scripts on another Windows 7 64 machine and they are working ok, so it has got to be a setting SOMEWHERE on this box.

I had a similar thing happen to the Windows Update icon only but it resolved.

This tutorial has a .bat file that resets the icons. May be worth a try.

Those looked like tweaks I'd already done, but I tried them anyway. They didn't make the notifications appear though, even after rebooting. Anyone got any other ideas?

Did they ever work on the computer? If so, you might consider doing a system restore using a restore point dated when they did work.

If not, you might these items. They're a long shot, but worth a check.

Just an update to this. Something I should've mentioned before is that this is a work PC, and I finally escalated this to IT, who told me there is a group policy across all machines that disables balloon notifications for all apps, and this cannot be turned off So I did a day of troubleshooting for nothing.

Question is, does anybody know where/how this can be undone if I have admin privileges on the box? I have managed to disable several things they said couldn't be turned off via registry tweaks, such as the f****** screen saver lockout password (which I disabled since I work from home). I may get in trouble if they ever find out, but I don't care Whatever the solution is, it's obviously not anything mentioned in this thread so far.

Sorry, but no. Only the IT department is able to undo a group policy setting for a work domain. You the user will not be able to.
