Hi,

Can anyone please assist with some annoying behaviour displayed by my taskbar icons for open programs?

Basically, if I have two or more excel workbooks open and visible in the bottom left side of the taskbar as icons, when I hover the mouse over one of them it causes all of the excel icons to pop up as mini preview panes. Ideally, I only want the one that the mouse is over to pop up as the preview or if that is not available I would like to disable the pop up preview when the mouse hovers over one of these.

It seems as though Windows is popping up the preview pane for all open files of the parent program when I only want the one that the mouse is over or none at all.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2003.

Any help most appreciated.

I don't think it's possible to choose which programs have Aero Peek enabled or not, it's either on for all or off for all.

You can turn it off by Right clicking on my computer, and go properties.
In the left pane, click advanced system settings.
Then the first option Performance, Click settings.
And in the options find Aero Peek, and untick it.
Restart your explorer and you will no longer see the peek for any program.

Hope this helps.

Uber Philf,

I tried your suggestion and removed the tick from the Aero Peek box and rebooted the PC. However, if I open 3 excel workbooks and hover the mouse over one icon in the taskbar, all three still pop up in a preview pane.

I am not sure if Aero Peek is controlling these pop ups? If I minimise this forum window to the taskbar and hover the mouse over it I am still getting the pop up preview so its not specific to excel.

Aero peek is that small glass button you have near the taskbar time (away from the notification icons) which when you mouse over will show the desktop. Sorry but i dont think this is possible! You could have the Aero theme without transparency and you cant view the preview of them! but they appear as a list when you mouseover the program icon in the taskbar

hope this helped :)

Hmm, my bad, always though that Aero Peek controlled the peeks.

If turning off Aero Peek didn't do the trick..

Here is a tutorial on how to disable them separately.

In Home Premium use the registry procedure, Professional and Ultimate/Enterprise have Group Policy Editor.
