Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit...

Two applications pinned to the taskbar, Defraggler and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, both show the "generic" icon rather than the ones built into the .exe files. In the "Start Menu", Defraggler is shown with the generic icon, but Eusing Free is shown with it's own icon.

See the attachment below.

Perhaps the icons are not recognized by Windows 7?

Hello Coover, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Do the icons still work?

If so, then right click on the pinned porgram's taskbar icon, right click on the program in the jump list, click on Properties, then change the icon for this shortcut to the default icon a few times to see if it may restore it for you.

Shortcut Folder or File Icon Change - Vista Forums

If that does not help, then you might see if rebuilding the icon cache may.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yes, the generic icons work. Here is what happens when I right click on them ...

Right Click on Defraggler ... two choices 1. Defraggler and 2. Unpin this program from the Taskbar ...

I right click on the Defrggler choice and get the option (among others) for Properties. I click on "Change Icon" and I get an error message that Windows cannot find the file it needs (see attachment below). When I click "OK", a bunch of Icon files are shown and can be picked. None, however, are the standard icon for the application.

Coover,

Is Defraggler still installed at that location in your image, or is it at Program Files (x86) instead?

By the way, I'll get back to you on the suggestion to rebuild the icon cache. I've done everything there except reboot as I am in the process of downloading a 3.95 GB file and Windows tells me that it won't be finished for 3 more hours at 164 KB/sec. Since I'm not using a Downloader, I do not wish to lose the part I've already downloaded.

As a 32 bit application, it's at Program Files (x86)

From you image, it seems it's looking for it at the "Program Files" location instead. Delete this shortcut, open the program directly from the .exe file, then right click on the taskbar icon and pin it again to see if the icon may display afterwards.

That did change the Icon to something other than the generic but not the one I expected. Oh well, that's better than the generic as I can learn to get used to it. See the attachment...

Since I have deleted the Icon cache but haven't yet regenerated it, that may have caused the strange Icon. I'm not staying up until 3 AM to find out. Thanks for the help. I really do appreciate it.

Are you able to manually change the icon to another one like you tried above? If none are available, you can also click on Browse and select another 256x256 pixel icon or one of your own as well.

Ok, I'm back at it. I have taken all your suggestions. The icon cache delete solution restored the original icon to the computer, and I was able to get the original icon back to the taskbar. Your knowledge of the icon cache was very helpful to me and I really appreciate your help.

Again, Thank you very much.
