taskbar icons

Hi gang, need a little help with this one.How do i remove an icon from the left side of the task bar, i want to remove it so it does not come back on the next boot.
Any help appreciated, much !

Hi flashh4, it depends on which application places that icon on the task bar.
Can you say which application is?

I know that but that only temporary removes it, i want to remove it so it does not return on reboot.
I don't want to remove it from my computer just the task bar (left side). The Icons are Skype & Windows Live Messenger.

Sorry, Chuck. I guess I also misunderstood. Give this a look and see if it's what you need. If you disable a program at startup you can still run it on an as needed basis via the start menu.
