Is there a way without installing third party software to allow a task bar docked on the side of the screen (left or right) to be smaller. Note, using small icons like what works on the top and bottom does not change the with of the task bar on the side.
One thing I noticed is that the with stops at the end of the date displayed. Is there a way to maybe turn off the display of the date to make icons very small on the side.

I may just live with it for a while, but if there is any third party software, as a last resort maybe when it finally gets to me I'll have to.

Just turn off the clock/date in the tray, and then you can resize the bar to the width of a single icon if you wish.

The minimum width is the size of one contiguous entry in the bar.

The clock is a system notification which you can just turn on or off.

To resize the bar, right click on it, uncheck "Lock The Taskbar", and you can then adjust the width, as you would a normal window.

On several systems I have noticed that some software and various themes lock the taskbar width. If that is so in your case you may need to try a different theme. Sorry, but I have no idea which work and which don't.

Bar dragged small; Bar dragged larger;

I disabled the clock and I can get it as small as you do but no smaller, It must be the themes themselves I'll look for one that has the ability to do it.

thanks for the info mike I'm glad it's not just me

Try this first;

Tordex - Start Killer

run it, and see if you can resize the bar smaller. Start orb takes up space and may be preventing you from going smaller.

To turn the normal start orb back on, just close "Start Killer" in the tray.
