Taskbar-onatop Windows 7

My taskbar appears on top of all other processes as it should be, except Task Manager which seems blissfully unaware of this law. XP Task Manager had no such problems obeying the rules of the taskbar. I prefer registry fixes over hunting the Microsoft committee, for sport, that dictated this painfully useless edict upon us lowly users to force us into an endless chase of upgrading away from horrible options we thought surely they would have fixed in the next version.

My Task Manager, being a mostly useless dialog, hangs off-screen with the 'Physical Memory Usage' or 'Local Area Connection' graphs sitting directly above the Taskbar's upper edge, so that when I highlight the clock the date bubble covers them slightly. This compact position allows for instant updates without obscuring my desktop.

In windows 7 ultimate if i place the Task Manager in this position it over rides the Taskbar and sits on top of it until the Taskbar is touched then the Taskbar does as it should, sitting on top of Task Manager. In XP using an identical position only during times of extreme system abnormality would the Task Manger sit on top of the Taskbar but the other 99% of the time it natively tucked underneath the Taskbar.

I need the Task Manager to natively, and always, tuck underneath the Taskbar when the Task Manager hangs off the bottom of the screen.

Hello Rob,

Task Manager has it's own "Always on top" setting that overrides the taskbar. You could turn it off though.

Task Manager - Always On Top

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

It is off.

Set your Task Manager half under the Taskbar. So one of the graphs sits directly above the Taskbar clock. This is what I see. In XP with "Always on Top" 'On' The Task Manager is above the Taskbar, 'Off' it is below, always for either. In 7 Ultimate 'On' it is always above, but 'Off' it is either above or below depending on which body had focus last. Essential in 7 Ultimate 'Off' only provides and anti-On function without duplicating the useful antithesis XP provided with the exact same function but there supremely above and supremely below the Taskbar, giving it here the feel that something is seriously overlooked or broken on this new install of Ultimate 7.

But once you close Task Manager and reopen it, even if always on top is unchecked, the TM still stays on top, you have to go to options again, check always on top then uncheck it again for it not to be on top.

Always is defined by example. In XP the Task Manager all but always existed below the Taskbar as in Vista due to a simple check box in Taskbar > Properties > Taskbar tab, labeled "Keep the Taskbar on top of other windows". I have not found this switch in 7 Ultimate. This function is missing as well as this switch. Yet its predecessors provided this function therefore what it is "supposed to do" is have this function. It does not, but it did, and one might guess it still does. It still has this function I so patiently seek, just not the button to activate it. The function is there, it must be.
