W7 Taskbar Thumbnail Preview Issue Please Help

My task bar thumbnail previews are not working properly. When I hover over it, it will not show the preview a lot of the time. Sometimes when it shows the preview when I click on it the window doesn't actually open.

Can anyone help me with this, I do not want to re install windows just because of a dumb error like this. I have searched and searched for similar problems but have come up mostly empty handed. I found some people having an issue similar to this but it was with DELL Laptops only for some reason. I have a custom built computer no dell parts what so ever so its kind of a pain not knowing what is going on.

Please help

Welcome,

Reinstalled windows with no effect. Could be graphics card or driver, check that out.
RAM working properly?
Take the memory diagnostic test overnight.

If you reinstalled and are still having the issue, then something hardware or software that you have installed is causing the problem. Remove all your drivers and programs and install them one at a time to see if you can find the cause.

Using lordbob's sage advice as a lead, you may want to try a clean boot

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
To do this, hit start, and type msconfig and hit enter. This will bring up a diablog box with boot options on it. Choose Diagnostic Start Up (or boot) and restart your computer. This will disable all non-essential drivers, programs, etc and allow you to enable them one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thanks Rich, I forgot about the diagnostic boot. That would be easier than uninstalling then reinstalling everything.

Instantly after installing and starting windows 7 it had the error before I even installed any drivers, it's very odd.

From lordbob above

To do this, hit start, and type msconfig and hit enter. This will bring up a diablog box with boot options on it. Choose Diagnostic Start Up (or boot) and restart your computer. This will disable all non-essential drivers, programs, etc and allow you to enable them one at a time until you find the culprit.

Go to search, type the word msconfig and then hit enter. I think the rest of Lordbobs explanation is clear. If you have a question about a specific part of it just ask.

I've had the same issue with the preview, and it turned out it was an outdated program which caused it for me. Sadly, I can't remember the name of the program, so you might want to take the long route and check if disabling some programs will solve it, after you did the things above users suggested.

This seems to be an graphics Driver issue.

Update and install the recent drivers for your graphic Device.

If you need help with the drivers kindly download device doctor and get the recent drivers for your machine.

You will not need to reinstall the os.
