Taskbar/Theme problem

Well, I was just browsing the internet tonight and all of a sudden a message popped up saying that my theme was changed to windows 7 basic...for no apparent reason. This changed my task bar to a gray, i get no picture preview when i put my moue of items in my task bar, and the exit, minimize, maximize buttons look a lot different. I go into appearance and attempt to change the theme, the desktop wallpaper changes, but the task bar will stay the same grey color, and when i hit on windows color, a completely different dialog box pops up that has advanced features such as changing font in message boxes and stuff like that, not like before when I get a bunch of preset colors to choose from.

Someone please help as this is very frustrating.

Wow, seems like it was a program that was causing this, once the program was closed everything went back to normal.

That happens with some older programs that cannot deal with the aero. What program was it?

It was an old video converter I was using to convert videos so I could put them on my iPod.
