when I click on the taskbar after a boot to open a window, nothing happens, nothing highlights or attempts to open. I am using a wiresless microsoft mouse. I aslo tried a usb mouse. I have update my hardware everything is working. I did an restore, and a full repair. help

are you referring to left-clicking taskbar icons? or right-clicking the taskbar and not getting a popup menu?

both, right or left nothing. when I click on an item on desktop it highlights and then opens after the double
click.

try starting in safe mode to see if the problem persists:

do a clean boot, disable everything at startup, then enable one at a time, to isolate the cause of the problem.

do both mice use USB? you could try a different USB port.

run windows update.

I borrowed a logitech wireless and it works..logic, don't use a microsoft product on a microsoft device...
