Teaching A Kid To Code

Not sure if we have any programmers or anyone who actually knows a good answer for this but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

At what age and how should I go about teaching my daughter how to code? She is almost 7 now so I figure it should be a good time to start her out with games that focus on programming or something? Im not necessarily trying to create the next programming prodigy, but I'd like to try to teach her that now so later she has the skill if she chooses to use it.

Anyone have any suggestions, experiences?

In my experience, you can teach anything at any age. If they don't happen to get it, then no harm done (assuming the teaching method/attempt was fun). The types of games that you mentioned might indeed work for her at 7 years of age. That said, programming involves abstract thinking skills that she might not do well with - yet or ever. Games might give you some insight to her ability to think in the abstract.

I started at gr 10 so around 15-16 wasn't to hard but some things get tough, hate them arrays but for kids oop is the hardest thing to grasp

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll see if she is open to a few games that feature programming and see how it goes.

LOGO is a simple enough programming language to start of with and it also has some advanced concepts like files and recursion.
