"tearing" of Clear QAM Hauppauge HVR-2250 only when ONE channel is act
Having an unusual problem with "tearing" when I am watching/recording Clear QAM channels with my HVR-2250/MCE/Windows 7 setup. If I view or record a single channel -- there is significant "noise/tearing" in the video and audio stream -- most noticable on HD channels. When I start a recording and then go and watch a different channel, this problem seems to disappear. I thought it might be a problem with one specific hardware decoder or the other but I went into MCE and configured for only one or the other channel... regardless, that channel has the problem.
My configuration - Asus P7H55-M Pro w/ Intel I3; Hauppauge HVR-2250; Windows 7 w/ Media Center; Comcast ClearQAM (no STB)
I checked that I have the most up to date drivers and BIOS -- I never really noticed the problem until we got a high-def flat screen -- which was when I started to record more "HD" Clear QAM content. It's really odd that it acts BETTER if both of the HVR's channels are running. By the way, if I tune the same channel simultaneously with my Samsung flat sceen -- the direct signal looks great.
Typical scenarios:
a) Watch OR Record a single HD channel (or even some SD channels) -- Problems about 80% of the time
b) Start watching HD channel and then start recording a 2nd channel -- Watched channel continues to show problems and recorded channel is fine
c) Start recording HD channel first and then start watching 2nd channel -- Watched channel is fine
d) Watch/record same HD channel (presumably using one HVR decoder) -- Problem occurs
Now the interesting experiment:
e) Start recording HD channel, start watching 2nd channel, and then stop recording 1st channel - Watched channel continues to look good - but if I stop the viewing and then restart, the problem comes back.
I don't know anything about how the HVR-2250/Media Center software utilizes DMA channels so I don't know what hardware/software would be selected/controlled in the one channel/two channel scenarios.
