technicalsupportxxx popups back after I upgraded to MiniTool Partition Wizard Free 9.0 but so far only when visiting a tripod website. I guess I am just I just going to have to block this site in the host file. It just gets annoying. Here is the site she visited, 404 Not Found warning a flash video my start playing. She clicked on the ad to stop playing and the virus warning popped upped. At least I have an image backup.

Is tripod websites a virus haven?

Normally, I would follow Jacee advice but I know what software I have installed on my computer. I am not a novice. Yes, unfortunately EPSON printer driver software can be considered to be a pup. I tried deleting those google chrome stuff, it actually crashed my google chrome and opera browsers. The other is weather channel app add-on for Google Chrome and I use it.

I don't know if removing this keys will prevent Epson Printer from working or not. I have confirmed these keys are installed after installing the Epson printer drives.

I also use the Bitdefender traffic light for some strange reason it shows up in AdwCleaner.

I guess I just didn't want to hurt Jacee feelings, so I just restored from backup and so far it worked till today. I hate toot my own horn, I do know a little bit more than then normal user.

For now what I did, restored from backup and blocked that technicalsupportxxx website in the host file.



I am not sure it has anything to do with my computer. It is tripod website. The site I linked to is being blocked by this forum automated link system block.

You think I still should do that, even though I ran an Image restore? Image restores is back to what is was previously.

Took some time.

I had an old back up I knew was clean.
It had Windows 7 and Lubuntu
My newer system had Windows 7 an Xubuntu.



So here is what I did.
I did an image restore the old Windows 7 with Lubuntu partiton. Then I boot into windows. Tried to get that bad site to show again, no luck. As a precaution, using Macrium Reflect, I just restored only the windows 7 partition. Then using mini partition wizard boot disk, I deleted the Lubuntu and the Linux swap file. Then using the windows 7 & Xubuntu image that had the possible problem. I restored only the Xubuntu partition using Macrium Reflect which restores the correct grub. Then I did some resizing of the partitions and created a new Linux swap partition using the mini partition wizard boot disk. Then booted into windows 7 and update everything I could think of. Ran Macrium Reflect backup and backed up everything, finally I installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Nothing was found. After verification of restoring the backup. I will delete the possible bad image file. I hope I made sense.

Most viruses, malware can't infect Linux(I not saying Linux is immune it is just harder). It also harder for a windows virus, malware to do a rootkit or write to a mbr if Grub 2 is installed. Linux people will clobber me for saying this, Grub2 is a virus in a way because it changes the boot sectors. A virus won't install if another virus is already there in most cases.

I was telling you how I had to restored using a combo of MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 8.1.1 and Macrium reflect because I deleted an image backup I should of kept. So I had to use a combo of the image backups as well.

It very hard for me to explain things. I also don't agree with MVPS sometimes. I am actually a little mad at bit defended traffic light, it should of stopped the website from even loading.

I think I know what maybe causing it but I got to confirm it. This time I did an image backup. Most of my image backups are done outside of windows.

How am I suppose to tell posters what happened for help and warn other people not to visit? No one actually did answer this is tripod websites a virus haven? The link was partially disabled by the this forums web link filter for your information. Technically it was never confirmed that it was a virus.

Update to be on the safe side, I went back to the image that has Windows 7 and Lubuntu 14.10. I may reinstall Xubuntu 14.10 at a later time.
