Hi all just want to know if this is ok I just got crysis 2 the other day and after 2 hrs of play I can see all my cores hit around 69c its a I7 stock fan is this bad or just ok

Saying that, if your able to, i would defiantly consider getting a better CPU fan.

I personally see no need to acquire a better CPU fan, unless of course he is considering overclocking, which does not seem to be the case.

In terms of necessity, maybe not. I have never been a fan ( pardon the pun) of using stock fans when doing system intensive activity's like playing games. Thats just me.

I understand and respect your postings. I just felt that your previous placement might need a comment. I hope I have not been inelegant.

Them temps will not hurt anything- 159f is a lil bit warm tho. I would use a 3rd party thermal paste and let it go. 99.9% of the time your cpu will never run as hard or get as hot other than if stress testing with prime95 or what ever at 100% cpu for 10 to 24 hours. If it can take that and not over heat or air inside the case not to hot for your vid card or hdd its fine..

They have tim so good now it will work fine with stock coolers and the fans on them have what 3 year warranties which most any 3rd party fan you buy is 1 year or maybe 2 years at most or for most all of them any way- so.. Most paste on stock coolers cpu or gpu is not very good some can turn to chalk in a few months or a year or 2 and cool lil at all if any. Some 3rd party coolers come will real good paste- not many tho. Its best to buy good stuff and you know its on there.

If you later have probs worry on it then- Heat is not so great but the cpu or gpu has to run at like 230f to hurt anything or ruin pcb etc. The mobo bios will auto shut it down at around 90c to protect its self [cpu] unless you changed it- thats what 194f. Heat is not so good for hdd or even the vid card they can start to act funny but not necessarily hurt them. HDD are more problematic if get to much heat.. So a good case and air flow is a good thing.

You could get ya some ac mx3 or shin etsu X23 thermal paste if you have probs and good to go.. If it is not giving ya probs do not worry on it. If or going to over clock ya id get a 3rd party cooler.. The x23 would drop temps a lot. would take ya 10 minutes to pull the cooler and put some better paste on it.. Clean it up good first with some isopropyl alcohol 70 or 90% from the drug store. Use qtips or paper towels and not dripping wet- good to go.

If this is a new build many pastes have a cure time and will cool better after up to 200 hours. AC MX3 has no cure time- x23 cools better but I have not read much about it.. You might not have seated or mounted the cooler good and will make it run more hot. So might be a good idea buy some good paste pull it clean it add new paste and mount it again..

My set up at 100% cpu @ 18 hours never runs more hot than 98 to 100f. I think 159f is a bit warm for my tastes.. But I am using a 3rd party cooler and good paste so..

Likewise..stock fans are basically crap..I install aftermarket as soon as I build a new system..if I were the OP I'd consider a cheap W/C loop like a H70 Corsair (if your not planning to O/C) or an air cooler along the lines of a TRUE Extreme 120 or similar.
Also some decent TIM like artic silver 5 or similar

Stock fans are not too bad. If I had a choice I would rather buy a better PSU than better bits of plastic to cool my case. I'd also buy a heatsink. If I was building a system for a friend that would be a definite inclusion. Stock heatsinks are ineffective and loud, unless you have a Sandy Bridge system that is not overclocked, but that depends on your setup.

I was using a the stock fan and hit 100c @ 100% load. If you can afford it buy a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler. You will see your temps drop 20c.

If you're not into overclocking a stock fan works just fine. Also don't buy into to the hype that your temps will cause your system to melt down. They are exactly where they should be for a stock into fan that Intel themselves shipped with their CPU's. I'm quite sure and confident that if Intel thought the fans were inadequate they would have provided something more robust.

The point is the stock cooler is sufficient for the CPU as designed..... Regardless of what we, and third party manufactures (who are trying to make a sale) think.

Now, if you intend to overclock, than yeah, get a "better" cooler. In this case, "better" just means the cooler can handle the "extra" heat put out by the "overclocked" CPU.

BTW I have an overclocked CPU and thus an aftermarket CPU cooler. If I wasn't overclocking, and didn't have money to burn (no pun intended) I would happily stick with the stock cooler.

My two cents.

@ belikexp, If your stock CPU cooler allowed 100 degrees Celsius on load, you need to check for proper installation!

As already mentioned, if you are not into Overclocking, all those extra heat pipes really will not be that much more of a benefit.

If you want a aftermarket cooler to bring temps down, it doesnt have to be a high end one.


For example, something like one of these:

Will do much better than the stock cooler, and cost less. They are more than enough for cooling a stock CPU, even a with a bit of a OC.


If OCing is something you want to do, then higher end coolers would be a good idea, depending how much you want to push it.



Of course its up to you, and however much you wish to spend on one.
Just a thought.
