Martin... I followed your instructions and did a "scan for hardware changes" since "scan for new hardware" does not appear as an option in device manager, and teredo still is not there.. any other suggestions.

Ok before we go deeper into this than we need to,

What OS are the two systems running?
Do you want to use Homegroups or Workgroups?

teredo will only be needed if both systems are running Win 7 and want to use Homegroups. Workgroups will work fine without it.

Sorry... I didnt explain clearly.. I haven't hooked up the new pc yet, I only have the laptop available currently. I was just going to prepare for the networking.. I expect to use homegroups when I do the networking. I accidently deleted the teredo device on the laptop and want to get it back.
They will both be running window 7 home premium.

You could try the procedure below to reinstall teredo and get IPv6 protocol working again.

Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Reinstalling in Windows 7

1. Temporarily disable Firewall and third party antivirus program on the computer for a test.

2. To verify relevant services..

a. Click "Start", type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in Search Bar and press Enter.

Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

b. Scroll down and navigate to the following service. Right click the "Peer Networking Grouping" service and choose Properties.
c. Please check if the service is started; if not, click the Start button and see if it works.
d. You may also choose Automatic next to Startup type.
e. Click OK.
f. Please repeat the above steps with another service: PNRP Machine Name Publication Service.

3. Modify IPv6 registry key to enable IPV6
==========================
a. Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\TCPIP6\Parameters

c. Check whether the "DisabledComponents" registry key exists. If so, let's move on the next steps.

d. Double click the "DisabledComponents" registry key and modify the value to 0.

(If the key doesn't exist, please create the key named "DisabledComponents" without the quotes, above and assign the value 0)

e. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Chev65.. So I followed your instructions and the disabledcomponents key existed and I modified it to the 0 value. I restarted the pc and the teredo device still wasn't there. In addition, the value in the disabledcomponents reverted back to "ff".

any other suggestions before I do a re-install of the os?

Btw, Martin. my system is an oem so I don't have the original media for a repair install unless you can help me figure out how to do it without the media

thanks

There is another way to reinstall this. Open up the Device Manager and click on the view button upper left, then choose the "show hidden devices" tab, this will allow you to see more options.

"if you can't seem to update your Teredo driver and have ZoneAlarm Security Suite, you may want to check whether the Enable IPv6 box in Firewall | Main | Advanced is ticked or not (the last box in the dialog) - if not, tick it and update the driver from the Device Manager." (- from http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7hardware/thread/c022478f-17cb-44de-8b85-fd021371eab3)

You might also need to perform the registry fix listed in this Technet thread.
http://social.answers.microsoft.com...k/thread/754c8f29-3a87-4e77-babd-a69c8910e17e

Click on network adaptors then scroll down till you see the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface, right click it then choose to update the driver "you can do this through the properties tab also". You will have the options to browse my computer for the driver software, or seach automatically < choose this one.

I'm not too clear on what you did to cause this problem but if you uninstalled this driver then reinstalling it should hopefully fix the problem. :geek:

Reboot the machine. It should be fixed now.

You can type, ipconfig /all into the command prompt then hit enter, to confirm if IPv6 is working or not. You should be able to set up a Homegroup if IPv6 is working.

Have you tried to System Restore to before you deleted device?

Try the specific solutions given for your issue again.

To Repair Install or Reinstall:
To run a Repair Install from the desktop or Clean Reinstall, borrow or locate a Win7 installer. You can unlock all versions in any Win7 installer by extracting the .ISO file using ImgBurn, use ei.cfg removal tool to unlock all versions, then burn to DVD. Use Product Key stickered to bottom of laptop.

If you cannot locate a Win7 installer, Back up your files and try running Gateway Factory Recovery: Gateway Support - Full Factory Recovery

Read the manual (at Gateway Support Downloads webpage) for your model to see if it differs from above.

Your drivers are here for clean install: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=nv79&x=0&y=0&st=kw Use drivers given by installer unless they are missing or performance dictates otherwise.

I am not that familar with Teredo but wonder if reinstalling your full Network software from link above might restore it? Others may know.

Hacked and taken over using teredo tunneling

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to "un-hack" my computer from the one that has hacked into mine using Teredo tunneling wiht pseudo interface and then taken a supervisor control of my computer and then hidden source.

Any thoughts? I'm desperate - he is making school impossible. I have to go to the library to do my work which abbreviates study time. I'm beyond frustrated, this is the third computer this year. I'm wondering if I have any defense?

Thank you for the suggestions. I guess I didn't mention - I don't want to be part of a network or Homegroup. I just want this hacker out of my system.

Any thoughts? He has erased/deleted the system restore so that isn't an option. When I try to re-install with discs he over rides and rejects re-install with I "don't have permission". I was using G drive to back up and he disconnected G drive. This is malicious not malevolent. Help!!
