Test drive Windows 7 Ultimate in explorer

I never really saw much benefit in those higher up versions of windows. Then again the laptop I bought did come with premium.

I would assume that you mean Home Premium. If so, that is not a particular high version...though it could be worse.

I'm thinking some of you may be miss understanding the intent? I don't think its really geared to wards people (like us) already running windows 7. Its meant to showcase windows 7 to people that aren't already using it. Thats why its the Ultimate version. If you're going to pick one version to let somebody test drive you may as well use the one with all the features, right? To be honest though, I didn't install the active X or try it out. I'm just assuming if you have IE 6 or later you're good to go and try it out. From the sounds of it, its a nice way to have a look at windows 7 without dual booting or installing it at all. Somebody probably got an attaboy for that idea. ;)

Agree with this assessment. Early on I decided to go with 7 Pro. It offered gpedit, XP Mode, and a few other features not offered with Home Premium. (I wish Microsoft would explain why gpedit isn't included in all editions.) I didn't see the need to buy Ultimate just for BitLocker (when TrueCrypt is free) or for the ability to switch between 35 languages.

Well, I was forced to buy Ultimate for my personal machines, because I needed the language interface. I use a German keyboard, and even if I could easily obtain an "English" keyboard here, it wouldn't do me much good because it is impossible to buy an English version of Windows 7 here.I have tried. Of course, I could have ordered a keyboard and Windows 7 from elsewhere, in English, but that is always a hassle, and, as things are, if I need the German interface for some reason, I can just switch back to it.

Using the standard German installation, and adding the English interface pack is the only sensible way to go. I know quite a few people with the same problems, so they are also forced to buy Ultimate.

Not really a big deal, but it is extra money of course.

Regards....Mike Connor

Just for info you can here; ATELCO Computer - Startseite

Thanks, but although some places have various keyboards etc, they never have the ones I want. I use the flat Microsoft "Comfort Curve" keyboards on my own machines, and these can be hard to source.
