Test install of IE10?

Hi All,

Using win7pro 64.

I have an application that runs within IE9 using third party DirectX. It was designed for IE6 and I am amazed it is still running OK in IE9, albeit with some Registry tweaks by me.

I'd like to see if it will run in IE10 but for now I have used the MS utility to block IE10 install, just in case.

The company that provided the DirectX control is no longer in business but I still need to run the application it drives.

Is there any way I can sandbox IE10 and try the application without replacing IE9 until I am sure it runs OK in 10?

I created a system backup image (Acronis) before updating to IE 10.
That way I can restore the system if I run into problems.

Using a VM (Virtual Machine) to test it is another possibility...

Not an answer to your question but I wish MS would make it possible to have two different versions of IE (such as 9&10) concurrently without all the drama of having to image or run a virtual machine. After all it's just a browser but unfortunately IE is so embedded within the OS I guess it makes it impossible. Having tried IE10 I rolled back to IE9 because of bugs but would love to have both (citing IE9 as my default browser) as IE10 I guess will handle HTML5 video far better.

I don't have a win7 to run in a VM otherwise I would have done that.

I found Sandboxie which might do what I want but it is a pay-for-it thing and I will probably only use the once. Given Scotty's comments on IE10 bugs I guess I will pass and stay with IE9 which is at least working with the DirectX.

IE 10 is now giving me a headache, some apps are not updating the history itself as it should be it. I am rolling back to IE 9 regret about the stupid update.

So far everything works for me with IE 10 and it feels faster.
How can I test HTML5 video?
I've played some videos and see that the Flash ActiveX is running in Process Explorer.
Do I need to make any IE/Win7 setting changes, use a specific site, ...?

To be honest HTML5 video is hard to find as flash still dominates. However, if you google youtube html5 and follow the opt in link it will set a cookie in Internet Explorer to play HTML vids on youtube. Although where ads are linked / embedded to a video flash will still be used over HTML. The way to tell is right click a vid whilst playing and at the bottom it'll either make reference to flash or html5.

I don't like IE10, I have had issues but it seems to perform better under with HTML5 video whilst on IE9 in full screen it's a little bit glitchy/ever so slightly choppy. Trouble is HTML5 video is probably the way forward meaning at some point those of us who have problems with IE10 will be forced to move to it. I hope it doesn't happen for a very long time by which time MS would of made IE10 less buggy. I think they kind of rushed it out. Seeing an awful lot of problems with it across various forums.

I played some HTML5 videos in IE 10 and didn't have any problems.

I just installed IE10 after imaging, of course and have not found any problems so far.
