Testing CDR media for excessive vibration

I purchased a pack of Memorex CDr, and the first few I tried vibrated so badly I couldn't record (on 2 different PCs). Other brands (TDK, Sony) produce little or no vibration. The burning utility I use only spins up to full speed if it is recording or reading a non-blank disk, so there is no way to pre-test blank media for vibration problems. Is there another utility I can use that does this?

Find a glass table, and put the blank media on it.
Good quality, you cannot take straight from the glass table.
This is for ensure the media is totally flat, Both sides.
If not, then when you use it, it would vibrated.
Best not to use it, as this will affect the DVD-drive, as depend if yours is slot or tray type.

I checked flatness of the two blank CDs that vibrated using a glass table. They appeared to be flat. I compared against a recorded CDr I use all the time that does not vibrate. This CD is not as flat, but is slightly bowl shaped. From this, I suspect some other physical imbalance or eccentricity that is the main problem. The only real test is to spin them up and see if they vibrate. I pulled another blank CDr from the middle of the pack and it had much less vibration and recorded OK. Maybe only a few of them are bad.

Maybe you should stick to TDK media as it is a good brand, without any problem.

Now you can add a few Memorex CDr which are good, then use it as a test against others, if you want to.
Glass table are should be flat but do note that you need to check with a good flat CD to test the glass table.

Glass Mirror should be a better choice.
For mirror, if not flat, it can tell straight away.

I used to work the Dell forums. Memorex was the one brand that we seemed to have the most problems with. TDK is OK. Sony is OK but tends to cost more than many other brands. The best is JVC/Taiyo Yuden but they have ceased production of CD-R media. There is still some Taiyo Yuden available but as distributers diminish stock there will be no more.

I have a recording studio and have used a lot of Taiyo Yuden CD-R's. I'm down to about 150 blanks left. Don't know what I'll use after that.

My last short stack of cd-r's was memorex 40x didn't notice any bad thing burning or playing after :/
I do tend to get Sony though just for the heck of it but they didn't have any short stacks 20pc's I believe ?

I noticed that on these problem CDRs, that if I take one and place it in a pop-out laptop tray and spin it manually, I can see that the embossed label is not centered very well on the disk. Even that thin layer of paint/plastic has some associated weight, so maybe it causes the imbalance.
