Text box shifts its initial position.

I inserted a picture in MS Word 2013, than inserted a text box over the picture. So far so good. When I edited a text located above the picture, the text box shifts its position and move on a different place. Is it possible to fix the text box permanently in its initial position? I constantly add or remove words or
sentences and each time I am obliged to trace the escaped text box and negotiate to stay on its place over the picture.

You should be able to control the flow of text by setting the Wrap, Right click on the object and select wrap, a fly-out menu will give you access to various text wrapping options left, right Etc and option to either lock the object to the position on the page or to let the object move relative to the text. You need to fix both of your objects, (text and picture Boxes), to the same place on the page and the text will then flow around the picture, when setting the options you also have options to move the objects around and re-size them to suit your needs

I've only got Word 2016 available here at the moment, but 2013 should slso work as stated or at least in a similar manner

Thank you Barman58 for the suggestions. Thank you Ranger4 for the video. Let me explain in details what I am attempting to accomplish. I needed something like a logo or graphic art placed at the begging and at the end of my documents. I tried header and footer from MS Word, but they are created with different
purpose. So I drew them in appropriate software, saved them as JPEG and inserted the first one at the
beginning of the page and the second one, which was supposed to be at the end of the documents, I
inserted after few empty lines full of dots, where I’ll paste text mainly from various PDF files. In this
fashion I intend to create ready to use predefined form free of any restrictions. Over these inserted
drawings or pictures I created text boxes where specific information concerning content of
individual documents is filled. There are no issues with the text box at the beginning of the document
because it always stays on the same position and even there is no need to lock the text box in this
position. When I paste or write text between these two text boxes the picture or drawing below the text
moves at the bottom of the page emptying space for the newly added text and always lay at the end of
the document. The problem is that, the text box does not move with it. I want to fix the text box position
over the picture and to make them move ahead together as a seamless whole. Is it possible or I am
overestimating the possibilities of the leading word processor?

There is an option to move with text this must be off this will lock the text box to the initial position turning this on will mean that the text box will move ahead of the text you paste in but there are better ways to lock things in place

It's just some text with a few objects inserted no macros or anything that might be an issue - created in Word 2016

if you right click on the Border of the object and click on more wrap options or similar

you will see some options checked to lock the position of the object relative to the page, which means that the text will not move the pictures or box - you can even place a picture into it's explanatory text box if that' helpful

Re- reading your post I would suggest that you

insert a text box at the top of the first page and use the flow options to lock this to the top of the page and insert the picture into this box, and add the required text you can use the wrap options for the image to control the way that the text in the text box flows around the picture.

the add enough blank lines to create two new pages

on the third page create a text box with picture and text as above but lock this text box to the bottom of the page

Paste your text into the second page untill you are happy with the content then you can remove the blank lines you added to make three pages to tidy up

If the document is fairly simple in layout I would take a different approach. Your description of the desired end product has some unanswered questions:

> Text boxes (overlays) over images - are they static and is the text protected (not end user editable)?
> Is the body text (text between beginning and ending images) end user editable and unlimited in length, i.e., text area grows and shrinks with content? Or does the author (you) fill in the body text as needed and then publish as a protected document?
> Does any area of the body text need to overlap either of the images?
> How long (number of pages) will the published document be?

If:
> The beginning and ending images have static protected text box overlays and
> The document is at least two pages in length and
> The body text between the images does not overlay either of the images

Then I would:
> Insert the beginning image and overlay into the header and
> Insert a section break for page two and
> Insert the ending image and overlay into the footer and
> Not link the page/section headers and footers
> Adjust header and footer margins as needed
> Adjust body text area as needed

Modify my reply for a single page document by not inserting a section break - header/footer formating still applies.

Yes Word 2010 and 2013 are similar, concerning this issue.

Your description of the desired end product has some unanswered questions:

They are static (situated and fixed permanently on the part of the picture) and are't text protected. The text in them must be editable and free from any restrictions in the future.

The body text is subject to chnange at any given moment in the future and grows or deminish as a volume.

By "protected" I tried to indicate "can't be changed by the end user/reader" not by you the author - you can always change it.

As I understand your posts, only the first page has an image with text overlay at the beginning (at/near top of page one) and only the last page has an image with text overlay at the end (bottom of the last page) - is this correct?

If correct, the method I tried to outline would be a viable solution. I would create a template file to use for the start of each future publication/release.

Well, my idea half worked.

I settled on modifying Nigel's suggestion.

I used multiple text boxes for the document beginning: text box to contain the image, one or more text boxes as text overlays, followed by a larger clear box to engulf all of the previous. This allows positioning for the beginning of your body text WITHOUT needing to add line break to establish the beginning mline position.

End by adding a text box to contain the last image then add a text box overlay.

Save, protect and publish.

I saved my test work as a template - if you want it let me know and I'm upload it.

I think that I know. See my interpretation of your template. The doc file grows to 1.52 MB and exceeds the limit of 1.5MB, so I saved it as a pdf.
