Text outerglow

Hi everyone.

I've recently switched from VGA to HDMI to connect my monitor to my PC. To be precise, I use a DVI --> HDMI cable.

Anyway, my problem when using HDMI is that the text becomes too sharp. There is a yellow outerglow on some text, especially ones written in black. I've tinkered with the ClearType settings but haven't found any combinations that get rid of the glow entirely.

One way I can get rid of it is by changing my monitor's mode from Movie to Photo, but colors are much more vibrant in Movie mode, so I would like to use Movie mode if at all possible. I have no problems at all when using a VGA connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I haven't had that problem, but then I use DVI-DVI, instead of DVI-HDMI. I don't know what settings that your monitor has, but my Acer also has adjustments for both contrast and warm/cool settings that you might try, if you have them.

This is normally a problem of the HDMI port. Some ports on some TV's will do this. To overcome this, swithc to a different port or update drivers then switch to different ports.

Hello crosswithyou, welcome to Seven Forums!

I'm not sure what you mean by "too sharp" or "a yellow outglow" below is a snip from one of my 26" DVI to HDMI 1920x1200 monitors I just post this for comparison.

Please have a look at the tutorial, at the link below and post a snip of what you are seeing.

Hi. Thank you for the replies.

My monitor only has Brightness/Contrast settings. I can also change some things through the nVidia control panel (I've got an nVidia GeForce 9500GT) but none of those have helped.

Unfortunately my monitor only has VGA and HDMI inputs. This is why I need to use a DVI --> HDMI cable if I want to connect via digital. I usually use VGA with no problems whatsoever, but I recently got a BD-ROM drive and a VGA connection would not support HD quality picture.

As for the screenshot, since it's a monitor setting, I don't think a screenshot would allow you to see what I am seeing.

Basically, the text when on Photo mode is slightly blurred but not to the point where it becomes hard to read. In Movie mode, the text is sharper but then black text (and other dark-colored texts) have sort of a yellow glow around each letter.

Hello all,
I´ve been experiencing this issue for a while and I haven´t been able to find a proper solution till today.
This is my first post here, so I hope this helps.

In my situation, I run a Win 7 64b on a 680GTX gpu.
It worked very smooth till suddenly, from one day to another, this changed. This huge white glow came out of nowhere surrounding all the texts and making everything very blurry.
Never found the reason till I started playing with my TV settings today.
I found out that the aspect ratio on my TV/Monitor was adjusting the image automatically, therefore streching everything, hence the white outerglow being so big.
Changed it to 16:9 ratio, and then on my 680GTX using NVidia Experience config manager I´ve re-arraged manually the proper ratio for my TV/Monitor (1842 x 1040).

So if you have this issue, give this troubleshoot a go, it´s worked for me wonders.
