Text Size Too Small On Some Websites After Updates To PC

I'm using IE8 on my Windows 7 operated PC (Home Premium 64). Following some Windows updates, the text on some websites is now displaying really small.

I can change the size temporarily on view>text size, but this is a pain to keep doing. Any idea what I can do to change it back permanently? Is there a certain problem update that can be uninstalled?

I would upgrade the IE. We are at IE 11 now. For a temporary fix use CTL and +

If you want everything on the system a bit bigger, you can change the DPI here: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display. For my 22" screen I set it to 150%. For a 15" screen 125% is ok.

Thanks for your further suggestion. However, when I went from 100% up to 125&, everything got too big and websites wouldn't fit width-wise on the screen without having to use the left to right slider at the bottom of screen.

Some research on web showed that this is a known problem. Some people suggest turning off something called 'stylesheets' in IE. Does anyone know anything about this?

Have you maybe accidentally zoomed out the web pages you are seeing too small? Try to set zoom level to normal (100%) by pressing CTRL + 0 (press and hold CTRL, press 0, release both keys) while on the page you think is showing too small or big.

If this was the case you can set zoom level in every site with CRTL + "+" (zoom in, press the PLUS key while holding down the CTRL key) and CTRL + "-" (zoom out, CTRL and MINUS or HYPHEN key). Alternatively, if you have a wheel mouse you can zoom in with CTRL + turn mouse wheel forwards and zoom out with CTRL + turn mouse wheel backwards.

CTRL + 0 always resets the zoom to 100%.

Just in passing, I know you said you use IE but you might try another browser such as Firefox. Firefox "remembers" your zoom-mode setting for each site/domain you visit... rather than having just one zoom value universally.

So you can set your desired zoom mode for each site, and forget it. Next time you go back to each and every site, the zoom you last set at that site will once again automatically be in effect... for that site.

There's a nice Firefox add-on named "NoSquint" which makes the zooming function a bit easier to utilize, and the zoom value itself is visible. The "zoom percentage" (e.g. 105%) is shown on the screen, which is informative. It used to be shown on the add-on bar (at the bottom of the window) but with the new FF29 that add-on bar is no longer available.

But installing the "Classic Theme Restorer" add-on you can hybridize/customize the new FF29 any way you want. Many people initially disliked the appearance changes that came with FF29, but this add-on allows you to bring back the way things looked up through FF28 or hybridize to your liking.

And in particular, with the "Classic Theme Restorer" add-on (which brought back the add-on bar which disappeared in the official FF29 release) the "NoSquint" icon can now be moved up to the normal navigation bar with the rest of the CUSTOMIZE buttons and functions (e.g. where the "AdBlock Plus" add-on button now also lives).
