I am having trouble starting a program that I have just downloaded ( Workspace -Interwrite) It is for presenting on a smart board. I am getting the following error:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc-0000142) Click oK to terminate the application.

I deleted the old version of the program before I downloaded the new one. I loaded this program on another Windows 7 Pc and it works fine so I know the issue is with this computer. I have tried running in different compatibility modes and as an admistrator. I welcome any suggestions..

thanks

Hi grodskib :)

Your Download may be corrupted, I would download again and try installation, also did you download from the software makers home site ...

Also close any Windows programs and none essential applications running, this may include your Anti Virus for a short time in some cases.

According to the error, the problem is with the loading of a specific .dll file:
Code:
# for hex 0xc0000142 / decimal -1073741502 :
  STATUS_DLL_INIT_FAILED ntstatus.h
# {DLL Initialization Failed}
# Initialization of the dynamic link library %hs failed. The
# process is terminating abnormally.
# 1 matches found for "c0000142"
Unfortunately, the program doesn't handle the problem and thus knowing which one isn't necessarily obvious. If you ran process monitor while launching the program, however, and then saving out the .pml file for review, you could probably figure out which file it was looking for and failed to find (or failed to load), to give yourself a starting point for fixing this.

OK, so zip or rar up the .pml file you saved and post it here or on a file hosting site, and we'll take a look.

From this, it looks like the last thing IW.exe is attempting to before it fails is to look up and load an Adobe plugin from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\Capture3D after the .dll C:\Windows\SysWOW64\acaptuser32.dll loads. It finds the registry location, but apparently the load of that particular .dll fails. I'm guessing whatever it was doing with the Adobe Plugin directory causes it (it never attempts to load any files from that location).

Are you sure the installation of the Acrobat 9.0 install is correct on this machine? It could be, but it's where I'd start looking.

Thanks for looking at file..I believe that my installation of adobe 9 is correct but how would I know otherwise? I could delete it and reinstall..There may have been a recent update...

Could be - I would uninstall both apps (if possible), make sure they're gone (I think Revo might be a good choice for this), and then reinstall them to see what happens.

Should I try to do a repair installation first for acrobat 9? before a complete reinstallation?

That's up to you - it's not going to harm anything if it doesn't work, I wouldn't think.
