There is no such thing as good tuneup software, they're either spyware or programs which completely corrupt your registry and operating system.

I use an older version of Glary Utilities. Glary Utilities is a minimal tune up program I use to clear out temp files, registry entries that don't point anywhere, and fixes or deletes broken shortcuts and start up entries. The biggest benefit is cleaning out the temp files. It also has an excellent, easy to use start up programs manager that also can be used to selectively delay program starting at boot.

There is some controversy about if removing registry entries that no longer point to a valid location improves performance but, at least, it doesn't hurt.

I use an older version of Glary Utilities because the last time I upgraded, it started frequently going onto the internet for reasons that I couldn't determine right away (ZoneAlarm sounded the alarm on that) so I reverted to the previous version. It could be current versions no longer do that but I've been too lazy to check.

For typical usage Windows 7 is optimized right out of the box. There is no need for optimization software. Things like CCleaner and Temp File Cleaner would be classed as maintenance software. Registry cleaners and memory optimizers (don't get me started on that) are worse than useless.

Then best tuneup advice I ran across was my local auto mechanic who tuned up my SUV.
He doesn't work on computer's and neither should we by messing with some tuneup software. The parts are too small to put a wrench on.
If it ain't broke...don't fix it.
That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Save your money and use common sense. But if you want to brick your system, buy and use plenty of tune-up software.
