The Clapper

I recently bought a clapper for my bedroom lamp, because it's not within reach of my bed. I now understand why it only had a 30 day warranty, because that is about as long as it lasted. I would get another, but see no reason if that is to be expected. I'm wondering if anyone has had better luck?

I've no experience of sound-operated switches, but can't you move it so that it IS in reach of your bed? You could try using a plug-in timer or, if you feel confident enough, how about wiring a switch onto a lead that is long enough to reach your bed and then make the appropriate connections within the lamp so that you can turn it on/off with that switch?

That I think would serve you much better. This way, the clap (rofl) is not involved in any way... at least relating to the lamp.

That I think would serve you much better. This way, the clap (rofl) is not involved in any way... at least relating to the lamp.

Hmm, that sounds pretty good, except that it would mean always managing to keep the remote locatable, which could be a problem for me when groggy and in the dark. I'll think about it. Thanks.

Got a Star Trek voice activated light dimmer, never had any probs with that...

Thanks, I ordered some of these on eBay. Now I have to find a way to chain the remote around my neck. I thought it curious that the battery that is included is 12 volt, that an odd size for such a small device.

Years ago, my friend's father had the clapper hooked to their Christmas tree lights. This man was a two-pack-a-day smoker for decades, and in his sleep, his coughing would cycle the lights from the tree on and off, even though his room was about three meters down the hall!

I didn't have a problem with other noises tripping the clapper, because it has a sensitivity control on the side. If it is turned toward the sensitive side, it is for the purpose of causing a burglar to think that someone is at home.

To tell you the truth, I never saw any mention of it in the instructions and I never tried it.

I might have to research that...or see if I can find the instructions.

I do remember when I got it, it had to be "trained", I had to say the commands several times, so I don't see why you couldn't "train it" to respond to just about any word or language.

Hmmm...I might have to play around with that later
