The default gateway is not available

I saw several other post on this, tried a few basic things but considering the variety of responses I figured I should start a new thread with my own ipconfig /all information.

I've got a wireless network card attached to my desktop receiving information from a wireless router across the house. So far I've tried updating network drivers, the windows utility for doing that says they're up to date. I've also tried automatically and manually entering the default gateway information. If I do it automatically, it works but stops within 5 minutes to an hour. Running repair says the default gateway is not available. If I enter the default gateway manually, it has an IP address conflict with another computer on the network, don't know whose. What should I do next?

Sounds to me like somebody is using a static IP on that network, the problem is that if they don't use an IP which is outside the range of DHCP IP scope then you will end up with an IP conflict.

I would figure out who is using this static IP then let them know they need to use an IP which isn't in the range of IP's which DHCP is using.

You can find out the DHCP range by looking in the routers set up page which for you looks like a Belkin router at 192.168.2.1

Conversely you could try setting up a static IP of your own so as to avoid this IP conflict.

Share with a neighbor, that explains part of the problem, if you are using that connection without the neighbors approval then I can't help.

Try typing in a different IP using the 192.168.2.x prefix plus the gateway IP of 192.168.2.1, basically just guess at which IP to use replacing x with something different than what you were using like 19, 20, 21 what ever works.

You can type the static IP info into your IPv4 properties of which ever network adaptor you were using.

They might even be blocking your connection with a mac address type of security, can't help with that.

It's with their permission, we have our own wireless router plugged directly into their modem. I tried using 192.168.2.2 yesterday, didn't seem to work, I'll try some more numbers now though.

Not to sure on this as you appear to have a valid IP according to the ipconfig, if the connection is dropping out with no default gateway it could be a million different things causing it. That is pretty much the bog standard error report with wireless. With your router across the house it would also be just a weak connection, 3 bars or less means the connection is poor and won't be reliable.

I would start by resetting the router, set it up again, then create a new wireless profile, deleting the old one.
