The Dependency service or group failed to start!

Well, I'm currently on another computer trying to fix my laptop. I can't use system restore to solve the problem because it won't complete. I've run system scans and there's no corrupt system files as far as windows can tell.

So the network and sharing center (basic network and set up connections) shows up as unknown the dependency service or group failed to start! That and my wired and wireless internet doesn't work. SSID of different networks will show up, but connecting to any one I own or can access will show limited connectivity.

But connecting it directly to my Western myBook (which uses gigabit connection) works, so it doesn't seem to be any hardware problems.


This all happened after I went far away to visit family and friends in a different country and plugged in a really sketchy looking network wire. That and ISATAP adapter #3 popped up ever since I had this problem. never saw it in device manager before this happened.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I was going to make a new thread for this, but I might as well post it here. I recently serviced a computer with the Interpol/Moneygram virus on it (some new version which packs a bit of a bite, let me tell you). Anyways, After scanning, removing, repairing, updating, etc, I still could not get the WiFi to work. The problem was that dozens and dozens of Windows services had been disabled. I eventually just broke down and did a system restore, which fixed everything, but I still have this one question: Since I was able to get Ethernet LAN working, but no Internet access on the WLAN, what Windows service does WLAN depend on that Ethernet LAN does not?

Anyways, enough thread hijacking.

Here is a good start Kurohyou: Go to Start, then in the search box, type services. You should see it pop up. Once its open, find the services at the bottom called Wired Autoconfig and WLAN Autoconfig. Set them to Automatic startup, and start them each. In my case, this failed, and I received the same message as you, that "The dependency service or group failed to start" with error number 1058 or 1065 (I should know, ive been looking at it all day lol).

Anyways, when that happens, go to the tab of the service in question that says Dependencies. Expand the trees to view every service that this service depends upon. you will need to enable those services as well in order for that service to start. This will be a tedious process and by the end of it you will be a master of Windows services lol except for me, I'm only a journeyman, as I gave up in the end lol.
