The Fight is on:- Windows 7 or Vista SP2?

I have never had any of the problems that have been reported with vista, even before sp1. The only issue I had with it was gaming was not as good as xp. But now that seven has reinvigorated gaming I am happy to just go with her. I cant see there really being a battle because it is of my opinion that windows seven is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to functionality and beauty, something the others can't compete with.

I would also like to note that a lot of the first complaints about Vista were related to the memory management and most (if not all) were...well, ignorant. I saw several people complaining about vista eating up memory saying it shouldn't do that and saying having nothing open used up half their RAM while in reality that's just far better memory management than XP.

I am using both these os's and for me the clear winner is 7.

I don't understand why people find the most insignificant and most petty things to discuss about. This is Microsoft's product. If they want to take Vista, clean house, and call it Windows 7, then they have to the right to do so.

You don't see anyone starting up debates about the fact that a Lexus LS, and a Toyota Camry are the same exact car, just with a few bells and whistles. Under the hood, they are the same exact thing, just on the outside, the Lexus is more luxurious. So I proclaim, Vista to be the Toyota, and Windows 7 to be the Lexus.

I think that regardless of whether it's a 'new' OS or just Vista SP2, it's still the Vista that should have been.

YOUR RIGHT!!! Being a beta tester for Vista we had some serious problems. Each build created new bugs and MS was kinda spinning its wheels trying to get all the features it wanted intergrated but shooting bugs was a higher priority. So in the end MS made a decision to suck it up stop all new development and fix the bugs that was preventing them from going to RTM. Vista was announced and the to do laundry list once completed became windows 7. This is what vista was supposed to be but time and bugs were not on Microsofts side. If people want to say its vista sp2 they are so wrong. Its vista sp102. We shouldn't even debate this issue but be happy that MS came out with a superlative OS thats heads and shoulders over the last few releases. I found running XP in virualization mode is faster than in native mode. Thats hard to believe. But True

Hi there

Whatever rigorous scientific analysis might or might not show I can only go on personal experience.

When vista was released I didn't have the hardware I have now and I can only say that on the computers I had AT THE TIME it ran like a real dog. Not only was it painfully slow computers would sometimes be totally unuseable for minutes at a time because of seemingly random disc accesses - often for 5 or 6 minutes at a time the disc light seemed permanently on.

True there may have been *geeky* fixes for some of this but a typical user isn't going to bother since the comparable XP system with either SP2 or SP3 applied ran like greased lightning compared with VISTA.

In the few years since initial launch hardware has improved very significantly and Vista has had SP2 -- however W7 still runs rings around VISTA on much lower specced hardware .

If people want to call it "Vista lite" or Vista enhanced" that's fine by me -- I don't really call it if it's Joe Blogg's micky mouse OS so long as it runs fine, is stable and reasonably secure.

W7 meets all reasonable criteria these days so why should people even think of going back to VISTA whose days I would expect to lass less than even XP which for one reason or another some of us will have to keep running for some time yet either as a Virtual machine or possibly as a dual boot.

Most of the people I know have PCs. Laptops mainly. When I talk to them them about Vista and Windows 7 they smile indulgently.
They've no interest in OSs and no awareness of them.
Some of them are running Vista most XP.
Our town library is running Windows 2000 on PCs donated by Bill and Melinda.
For these people their PC is a browser for info and shopping and a word processor which sends letters.
When I say to them they're probably going to have to buy new computers they don't believe me.
The one they've got works fine for what they do. Why should they?
Many people listen to "obsolete" stereos, radios and TVs every day.
How is it that computing has created this docile captive market who get forced to buy new hardware every few years?

Widows 7 vs Windows Vsta

From personal experience I find that although I have used Vista for the past 3 years I like the changes in Windows 7.I have Vista tweaked and have had no problems with perfprmance.I prefer Windows 7 and will purchase a copy when available.

Don't you think it all sounds very familiar with the launch of WinME when that came out then they brought out XP.

Wasn't it said then WinME should never have been released and XP was what it should have been.

You'll never satisfy everyone when a new OS comes out there'll always be people who think something could have been done better.
