the file system check tool will not run due to write protected drive

My newly created and updated Norton Bootable Recovery Tool scan fails with it on a USB flash drive on my Windows 7 system. And when I use the command prompt to run the NTFS file system check tool, ( chkdsk /f ), it says unable to run due to that drive partition is write protected, so then read only. So do I need to boot to a partition tool to fix this issue or what can cause this problem. ?

I think you can remove write protection via Control Panel --> Device Manager --> somewhere in the properties of usb stick. I do not remember exactly where.

First of all let us know why you want to scan that flash drive with Norton Bootable Recovery Tool ? What exactly is the problem you face with that flash drive and when did it happen?

Please furnish full details of that flash drive, Manufacturer/model Number/ capacity etc., so that I can check more details on the manufacturer's web site.

How old is that Flash drive?

Does it have a write-protect switch?

Are you able to read the files on it in the present condition?
