solarmystic, don't worry they will find a solution. I'm sure scientists and inventors have met thousands of problems during inventing a new product, they solve them and they don't tell us about them. The flash industry is so big and vast ( think of mobile devices alone) that a lot of money and research will be pumped in to solve whatever problems they meet.

Why are they still worried by Moore's Law, a law that was written years ago and they are trying their hardest to apply it years into the furure. I mean the world won't end if the number of transistors in a microchip doubled after three or four years instead of two.

have been watching articles like this for some time now and remember they were talking about transistors being built around organic molecules but now this so these shouldn't be that far away given the rate of development we have had over the last decade or so.

I already have a TINY micro sdHc card in my phone (32GB) and a 64 GB one will surely appear sooner or later.

Whether these can replace SSD's yet is a moot point -- but the way to the future is clear --tiny vast storage arrays -- what need for "Cloud Cuckoo Land" -- when we can have maybe several PETABYTES of storage spread out over the size of a few old fashioned postage stamps.

That doesn't mean to say don't get an SSD-- in today's REAL technology they are very much still worth it -- anybody who's used one even an (or maybe specially on) an older machine will say why on earth didn't they get one sooner.

It's almost impossible to convey the difference between spinners and an SSD to people who have never tried one.

I'm not going back to spinners for my OS etc -- even on my laptop I can store all my external stuff on external USB disks or storage sticks so the 120GB SSD I have isn't a limitation on the laptop.

I've got a 120GB, two partitions with OS installed on both. All apps, page file, etc on the SSD, hibernation disabled.
Use spinners for data, storage.

Mate I have all 120GB at the moment just backed up by HDD's.

I've three brands and found Samsung 830 (3) marginally the better Crucial M4 (2) a second and have yet to try out the SanDisk Extreme but I think you'll find most are ok.

I don't think that Mr. Moore thought of it as a law, probably more like an exponential method of looking into the future of the processes he knew.

Trying to cram increasing amounts of stuff into decreasing amounts of electronic strata will lead to increasing human invention and progress. That's always been the case, since we first started to use that stuff in our craniums. And always there are those who say "There are limits." The only limits are those in our imaginations and thoughts.

Perhaps mediaeval religious thinkers were onto something, in debating how many angels could dance on the head of a pin?

Yeah Bertieson but I can't begin to imagine transistors made out of atoms yet let alone sub atomic particles and if we want to go down that line one is supposedly meant to end up with pure energy so are we going to be able to see our machines
Frankly I think things are small enough as it is - for example say having a gaming tower with the hardware the size of a full stop hanging by a piece of thread from the roof of it like a cube from a rear view mirror - I mean is there really a point?
