Sorry for a question no doubt covered.

I am in deep with Win 7; two laptops and a desktop with no easy out. I preorded three copies of Win 7 from Amazon when the half price deal was afoot.

Are my three copies of Win 7 RC going to last me until I have the official copies in my mitts (Oct 26?) or are they going to expire leaving me without OS's on the three machines my wife and I use every day?

If an early demise is coming, is there any way to get an extension to carry me through to the mid October date?

Hi and yes you can extend the time limitation for up to 120 days by using the re-arm feature every 30 days (max 3x). pretty easy. At the end of the original 30 days you simply type slmgr.vbs -rearm. If you have the 'official' activated RC from MS they are good until mid March, at which time they'll start to experience random shut downs.

Windows 7 Release Candidate

The RC expires in two levels: after March 1, 2010, it begins shutting down every 2 hours. It expires completely on June 1, 2010.

The March date is the one that appears when you run "winver".

The post from "zigzag3143" is more relevant if you have gotten an RTM (release to manufacturing) copy without license keys. Disregard it for the RC.

If you have RC (build 7100) simply go to Microsoft Windows 7 site and you can get RC keys there!! All you need is Hotmail account and you can then use it until 1. March 2010.

My three RC 7100 copies are official downloads from MS and each has an official key from MS (The MS win 7 site). All three keys are different.

So I gather that these RC 7100 builds will run through Feb of 2010. Since I have ordered three copies of Win 7 when it's released in Oct, it doesn't appear I have a problem.

If I misunderstood, please advise and again thanks all. That's a relief.
