the mouse 's motion moves then stops

ok i got a new mouse and the cursor moves for a few seconds then stops
my computer is a windows 7 home premium and it has 64 bit
it is a Dell
it is a desktop

its starting to drive me uh crazy and annoyed i can't draw graphics for my stories now (the cover mostly) can anyone help please
oh also the mouse says gear head on the side if that helps

Did you uninstall old mouse software if you had any?

Hi welcome to the forum
Try the mouse on another computer and see if it works on it. If don't work right mouse could be faulty. Do other mice work on your computer?
