the move from X86 to X64

hi guy just about to do the move from 32bit to 64bit can anyone tell me if most or if not all of my programs, will work with 64bit as i use them like every day an also will my cd key work with 64bit. ? thanks matt .

I'm assuming you have the retail Windows 7 DVD?

Providing you uninstall the 32-bit version you can use the same product key for the 64-bit version of Windows, but you will need to activate it again.

Just click Start and type slui.exe 4 in the Search field, press Enter and follow the wizard's instructions.

hi thanks i think it is retail as i got it as a free upgrade with my old laptop witch had vista to start with but, I paid £30 extra for the disk and the disk says upgrade on it if that helps at all.

Every program that will work in your current setup will work in the new one, because most programs will install into the x86 Programs File as 32 bit. So that's not a worry.

Sorry you paid so much for a disk for free Upgrade. We could have hooked you up with one here to use with the Product Key on your Upgrade COA sticker.

No problem at all with the programs. But best look at Epson's page for possible difficulties with your Printer.

Hi there
Some Epson printers (older) might not have Epson drivers for X-64 -- for example I'm still using a 1290 Epson Photo printer -- I'm still using this because it's relatively cheap to get "alternative inks" for it and it will print at A3+ size (next size bigger than the standard A4). However When I installed the printer Windows update found one -- and I think it's MS rather than Epson written -- works fine however.

(The modern cheaper printers don't have A3 sizes -- and modern Photo quality A3 printers such as Epson R2000 are quite expensive -- around 500 USD !! which is why I've kept this older model which is still working perfectly).

The moral of this is that even if you can't find the driver on the epson site try installing anyway and see if Windows update can find it.
