The New HDD - Killed Brightness Transition?

Hello (My first post, go easy on me, DONTT KILL MEEE :D)

Basicilly, i got a Inspiron 15r (Dell N5010 - Intel core i5 version M460) - End of feb. It was perfect - only problem was a 5400rpm hdd - WAYY TOO SMALL.

So, I got a Momentus XT - and cloned the whole hard disk - it all worked (recovery partition died, but thats another story)

Before, when i left my computer untouched, the display brightness used to dim in a very smooth way, and when i used it again, it resumed again in a very smooth way.
Now, if its left, it dims by just dimming. No transition at all. And when you resume working, it just lights up again - It hurts your eyes abit if it was left on full brightness before). Ive tried pretty much everything - the correct drivers are installed (Generic PnP Monitor and ATi Mob Radeon HD..), but its not working. It sounds rather stupid, being concerned about an issue like this, but im one of those people who complain a lot. And I liked it - it made it seem more...smooth?

Any help is REALLY, REALLY appricated

Thanks, Aman.

Yep, I had a look at that - Still, no difference. Thanks for the suggestion regardless.
I dont get how a new hard disk can cause this...
As the data is a EXACT sector-by-sector clone.
And all the other settings and programs (and IE9 History) is still there.

A new drive with identical data on it can not normally affect the display settings.

Something else must have changed.

Brightness settings didnt go to default (I had High Performance selected - and it remembered)
Doesnt seem like a driver issue - Same drivers as before.
It doesnt matter if its plugged in or on battery - it still doesnt smoothly dim and then resume brightness.

Hi, just a question, How did you clone your drive? Did you use Acronis or Symantic ghost or something similar?

Hello fluffwitt,

Yes, It was cloned by using Acronis True Image 2011 - Home. All I did was get my old HP laptop (Which has two HDD slots), put the old Dell HDD in Slot 1 and the New Momentus XT (the one to be fitted) in slot 2 - and then booted and cloned by using the acronis bootable media.

Maybe I could try Norton Ghost..Just to see if it makes a difference.

A newly cloned HDD can NOT cause this to happen,,,period.
Either something has changed hardware wise or you may have inadvertently turned it off by hitting a key combination...
Check your User Manual for more info.

Well, Ive slotted the old HDD in and its doing exactly the same!

Its not a windows thing..Maybe another factor. IF another Dell 15r/N5010 (i5) stumbles across this thread, then please let us know if your brightness transides smoothly or does it abruptley change.

Now, to screw everything back up and put the Momentus XT in..

Regards
Aman
