The new tray icon popup is annoying

As someone who likes Windows' tray icons as they were in Windows 95 until Vista, I wonder if there is a way to turn off the icon popup (and make the icons appear sidewards again) or, at least, to close it automatically instantly instead of having to wait for a few moments after clicking an icon there...

Any ideas?
