Solved the normal pound sign icon

my pound sign icon is this $ and im living in the UK but i carn't get the normal pound sign icon,
when i loaded windows 7 up it gave me USA UK but there was no united kindom UK so i had to
have the USA UK. think this is were i went wrong.
Is there a way for me to use the normal pound sign instead of this $

You can make it using the Windows alt key codes.

Hold down Alt & type 0163 on the number keypad.
