I get these two error messages with two different programs.
I have deleted and reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (this one should contain MSVCP100. dll.), I downloaded it from MicroSoft, no change.
I have tried to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 (this one should contain MSVCP140. dll.)I get an error message that says it's already installed, but it's not in the list of installed programs.
This all started about a week ago when I suddenly was surprised I had a copy of MicroSoft Edge installed on my PC. I think I happened with an automatic update from Windows, but I'm not sure. I immediately removed it. I thought there were no more updates for Win7, but I could be wrong. I now have automatic updates turned off. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. I hate to think I have to reinstall Windows 7. Does anyone know what else I could try?

What you need to know is that for each Visual C++ redistributable there are two versions, 64 bit and 32 bit. A 64 bit app need one, a 32 bit app needs the other. You may have installed the wrong one for the app that needs the .dll. If you installed the 64 bit .dll and your app is 32 bit then it cannot use the 64 bit dll.

There are no more updates for the Windows 7 OS. There are other updates that are not specifically patches for the OS though. The Malicious Software Removal Tool, Defender/MSE definition updates and (as you found) Edge for Windows 7 are still issued.

Edge is marked as an important update, so if you still have Windows Update set to 'Install updates automatically (recommended)' then you will get it. Set it for 'Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them' and you will be able to right-click on the Edge update and hide it.

Yes, I am aware of the need for both 32 bit and 64 bit. Here's a screenshot of all the MS Visual C++ programs I have. As you can see, Visual C++ 2015 is not on the list. When I try to load in from the downloaded file, it tells me it already exist and it ends the process. That makes no sense to me. Is it hidden somewhere?

Hi

there's a bug in C++ 2017, that stops 2015 installing

please remove both your 2017 installs REBOOT

Install 2015, then your 2017's
