Solved The program can't start because msvcp140.dll is missing error

One of my video editors is giving this message after a try at getting their upgrade.
Their error shows to be common at google. But what is the solution? Some places offer me to
download it but I'm wary now of how to proceed.

Error message says:

The program can't start because msvcp140.dll is missing from your computer.

The solution is to download it and then put it in system32 folder. Run CMD as administrator, then type:

regsvr32 msvcp140.dll

If "regsvr32" reported an error, post it here. If everything is fine, mark the thread as solved.

The Dll file is part of the Visual C runtime package - most installers will include an automatic download of the package but it would appear that yours did not or the install failed. It likely worked before your disk crash due to it being present due to being installed by some other program

The above solution will work if you can find a suitable copy of the .dll file ...

You can download the complete package as an installer which would also eliminate any further missing files issues for the package

Yes, the only method to get the .dll shown at microsoft was to download Cisual C++ from 2015
redistributable. That's how far I am. The install seemed to run successfully.

After restart my program which is just called MKVCutter seems to open
as usual. I'll mark solved.

But if a further error crops up I have this question: Can the troublesome .dll now be found on system
and how to locate it it? It's not protected in some way?

As stated before I posted it should be in the System32 folder, which, as it is part of the system has some protection built in - but of course may be moved/ copied/deleted by any user or process with the required admin credentials. The best way to fully protect this is to include it in a regular backup regime Conventional or the current best option of a disk image performed regularly and kept disconnected from the system and preferably at a different location ( this is protect against ransomware attacks and theft/fire/flood.

I actually (in addition to my Backups & Images), keep a copy of all my installers and related software on a local disk so they are there for when I need them without accessing the backups

If I may.

Run Windows 7 Updates and see if any more C++ are recommended.
