The program that controls the auto hide?

I like to black out my desktop completely at night listen to some relaxation music. I switch my desktop to solid black and auto hide the task bar.

Of course every-time I want to auto hide the taskbar, I need to go in and change the personalisation properties

Ok so my question is this...

When I check that little box, to auto hide the taskbar, which program, or applet, or whatever is being fired/activated?

Is it possible I could create a shortcut to it?

sounds to me like a need for a hide/unhide taskbar link in the desktop context menu.

bet brink could do it and a tutorial too

Thanks for the replies guys and apologies for my slow reply. Life has been eventful lately...

Lol can't switch off the monitor. It's my laptop and it's attached to my Tv through one of those V.. cables (look like the old serial cables) and and audio cable for the sound.

Actually there's an idea might just pull the graphics cable to the laptop... hmmm

I know you didn't ask about icons but do check out fences by stardock. It hides desktop icons with a simple double click and it is very useful for me since I don't like my desktop too cluttered..

I seem to have some weird form of Pc O.C.D. I couldn't bear the thought of icons on my desktop. I only ever use the quick launch.
Even the thought of knowing the icons/files were there, hiding in the back round would make my skin itch.

Tried pulling t he cable. Comes up with a stupid message that doesn't disappear saying there is no signal from the Pc.
Ah well guess I just have to stop being lazy and just go ticking the boxes and all that stupid stuff.

You could try setting the screensaver to "Blank" and the time to 1 minute (or whatever you prefer). That might be easier.

You don't need to go to personalization. You can right click on a blank area in the taskbar and click properties.

You could try setting the screensaver to "Blank" and the time to 1 minute (or whatever you prefer). That might be easier.

You could also use the "Preview" option to start the screensaver.

A laptop usually has a Fn key to switch between lappy screen and a monitor, switch to lappy screen temporarily then close the lid, making sure the power setting is to do nothing when lid is closed
