Hi rko2164,

I would highly suggest you do some research on Sims 2 and Windows 7. This have been numerous issues reported with the Sims 2 and 7. While some have been able to get it to run under 7, a host of others have had problems. This is especially true of laptops where games tend to struggle anyway.

Anyway have a look at these....

- http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/117084-windows-7-sims-2-bsod.html
- http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/83567-sims-2-w7-64-bit.html
- http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/77725-cant-run-sims-2-windows-7-after-installation.html

All of those is from using the search term sims 2 using sevenforum's seach.... Windows 7 Forums the biggest Windows 7 help and support forum, friendly help and many Windows 7 tutorials that will help you get the most out of Microsofts new Windows 7 Operating System. - Search Results for sims 2

I'm not saying it won't work, just making you aware that there are issues under Windows 7. And again, a laptop complicates things further.

Good luck.

Guaranteed, Sims 3 gives you the better game experience (it's just more fun in my book than sims 2 but of course that's purely subjective)

If sims doesn't play right, it's in 99% either missing RAM or an insufficient graphics card.
You say Sims 3 runs on your Laptop.
Seeing how the requirements for Sims 3 are higher, Sims 2 should work as well.
You just get a gray screen...no error message...no Sound? Have you tried to ALT-Tab out of that window (in order to minimize it) ? Those Error messages have a habit to hide behind the window sometimes.
If the game ever ran and you get that screen at a subsequent start, you need to delete the game caches for it to start again

I know that...when I installed it under Vista I needed a special patch from ea.com.
I believe, if the Specs are too low it either wouldn't even start to install but stop with an error message or it installs and crashes during run.

This grey (??) screen makes me wonder about a defective download... with ~4.3GB download that's always a possibility.
