Change Windows fonts

You can change the font in any part of Windows (for example, menus). Changing a Windows font doesn't change your program fonts. For more information, see Fonts: frequently asked questions and Make the text on your screen larger or smaller.

To change Windows fonts

1. Open Appearance Settings by clicking the Start button
   
   and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type window color, and then click Change window colors and metrics.
2. In the Item list, click the part of Windows that you want to change the font for. For example, if you want to change the menu font, click Menu in the list. Then, make any of the following changes:
   • In the Font list, click the font that you want to use.
   • In the Size list, click the font size that you want.
   • In the Color list, click the font color that you want.
3. Repeat these steps for each item that you want to make changes to, and then click OK.

Another idea, does the large ribbon happen when you launch word in safe mode. To do this, hold down the Control key whilst clicking on the word shortcut. If the ribbon is small, it is caused by an addon. If it is still big, it is caused by a setting in windows

You could also try some different Text Size settings and see if that helps.

I was wondering if this issue was ever resolved.

I have two laptops, same models, Lenovo Thinkpad x220. One of them is the x220T, the tablet version. Aside from that they are nearly identical machines, and I have the display set to Medium 125% on both of them. Outlook 2010 looks fine the way it should on the X220, but it looks huge as shown here in the screenshots on the X220T. I can't figure it out! When I change it back to 100%, it is fine, but still a bit small and not desirable. There has to be some other underlying cause of this.

You can drag the ruler to select sizes between 100 and 125.

Maybe choosing 110% (or whatever) would work better for you.

I had tried that--it was effective to a degree but muddied up some other things around Windows. The ultimate fix for me turned out to be switching to a default Windows 7 theme, since it was the Advanced Settings font there that was causing my problem apparently. I believe that may have been mentioned earlier in the thread. Thanks

It had to do with my windows theme

I had just created a new windows theme.
I set it back to default and outlook went back to normal.
set it to my custom and it had big icons again. had to create another theme.
