Solved The windows xp mouse cursor jumps around

Hi all,

I have Windows XP SP3. Every thing is OK but my mouse cursor jumps around the screen when I move it or click. I tried to reinstall the OS, but again that problem exists. Is any idea to solve that?

This is a Windows 7 Forum not Windows XP.
Shouldn't reply really but just get a new mouse!

OW, Yeah, you are right. I was in hurry. sorry. PS: can't get a new mouse, it's laptop.

Clean the Touchpad. And go to the mouse settings and check the sensitivity level. Normally when a mouse acts like this your touching it with your palm of your hand or something.

This exact same thing happened to a friends laptop, turns out, she spilled some stuff around the touchpad. You could get a cheap USB mouse and turn off the touchpad. It could be the pad wear too.

Get the touch-pad checked. Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Click the tab stating your touch-pad name if present.

You need to set the area of sensitivity, palm checking, etc. Sorry but I currently cannot remember the exact jargon. Post a screenshot of the Touchpad control panel if you need help setting it up.

I agree with mitchell65 as above -- this is W7 not XP but in this case --this isn't an XP problem per se. I've seen this problem also on W7 and W8. The best way to fix it is to install the GENERIC synaptics touch pad driver and then when using a mouse DISABLE the touchpad.

If you can still find the version that prompts you for settings at startup then you can enable / disable the touchbad at boot -- I HATE touchpads anyway so I always have it disabled. I always use a mouse even on a laptop.

Get the drivers from the Synaptics site.

Some Synaptics drivers actually have an option to switch off the touchpad during typing, this may solve the issue if available, though I have seen it make things worse, so experimentation is advised. Also it's worthwhile rebooting after any changes as base level drivers such as mouse, keyboard Etc. often benefit from this

Doesn't matter if the OP is using XP, that's fine, this problem is not OS specific after all. It seems to be a hardware/touchpad configuration problem.
