Last night I was working on my computer when a message popped up that a program I was running was not compatible with the them I had (or something along those lines). Sorry I can't remember the exact message and at the time it didn't seem that important. However, now Aero seems to be somehow disabled on my computer and I can't get my theme from Windows 7 basic back to the Aero look. I haven't downloaded anything new. At the time I was running a DVD decrypter and Xilisoft video converter...both of which I have run before with no problems. I have Windows 7 Home Premium...any ideas?

Change your theme back to a Windows Theme: Go to Personalization in your Control Panel. Under Basic and High Contrast Themes, choose a higher contrast theme than Windows 7 Basic. You will not get the full use of Aero with the Basic.

Sometimes It happens. If A few resource hungry programs are running simultaneously, aero becomes automatically disabled with a message popping up . But it automatically backs to aero after the programs are closed. Have you tried to apply aero manually ? If no, try it (right click on desktop > personalize > aero themes ). But if you already tried it , and it refuses to apply, it is to be fixed in some other way.

So explain what have you done. And dont worry, it is recoverable I think :)

Yeah, I looked for this topic before I posted but go figure that AFTER I posted it had a list of related threads and I found the answer there :sarc:

Yes I did try manually changing to an aero theme and it didn't work. Turns out it's as you expected...was running a program that took up too many resources after a while...one I closed the program the aero theme came back on.

Thanks!

So while the program is running, you cannot use aero ... even if manually changing, and after closing that program, it automatically back to aero, isn't it ?

It is the normal situation, pal :D And you are most welcome !
