I've installed Realtek High Definition Audio Device and it doesn't show up in Device Manager. I can see it in Uninstall programs and C:/ drive. If I click on an icon, nothing happens. My playback devices are ATI, Windows standard and Digital Audio HDMI and recording devices are Microphone and line-in.

Without system specs, can't really say what is happening.

What RealTek did you install? The PC Vendor (or motherboard vendor for a custom built) drivers or the generic drivers from RealTek?

The Windows standard, I assume HD Audio Codec, says the driver wasn't really installed or correctly.

To better help us to help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's the correct way to do it. :SystemInfo See Your System Specs Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built. Very important

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.

After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts.
Click on My system Specs in the lower left of this post to see how it should look.:)
Full instructions are in the tutorial.

First steps, get the motherboard chipset drivers and the correct sound driver from Acer for your specific PC model.

Install the chipset drivers then the sound driver.

We can't link you directly to your specific model's downloads as you did not include the PC Model Number in your System Spec's. Add that and we can link you directly to the drivers your need.

Chipset drivers (motherboard drivers) among other things define (identify) all the devices on your motherboard. If the proper sound drivers are not installing this could be one reason. Chipset drivers are installed just like any other driver. As you have an Intel chipset you will have Intel motherboard chipset drivers.

I have to make changes to system specs. I've bought a computer in a store that was custom built. (I always thought it was Asus). It's PCBOF078 PC Plus Win Dante (this is how they market it), but actually the manufacturer is Accord 92. Its sound card is 7.1 Realtek ALC 887.

That motherboard's sound is typical. It does not have RealTek, it as "Via HD Audio". In addition this comes with a trial version of Creative SoundBlaster MB software which is a software enhancement to the VIA HD Audio.

Suggest you download (1) INF Driver (Motherboard chipset drivers) then (2) Via HD Audio drivers and finally, optional, the Creative MB software. Install the chipset drivers first.

I've installed the chipset drivers and audio drivers. I do have some questions though:
1. What is typical about motherboard's sound?
2. Why does manufacturer state Realtek when it has Via?
I suppose Via doesn't support stereo mix?

Most modern PC sound does very good, compared to 5 or 10 years ago where you needed a separate sound card. I have a home computer based recording studio so I'm well attuned to audio.

I don't know why they stated RealTek when ASRock lists the Via. A blunder on the PC vendor.

Via should support Stereo Mix, most all do. It may not show up initially and may be either disabled or disconnected. Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Recording section if it is shown you can enable it and set it as default recording device. If not shown, RIGHT click in an empty area in that panel then LEFT click to show disabled and disconnected devices. It should now show up and you can enable it and make it the defaul recording device.

When I downloaded VIA and installed it, the only thing I could see is Microphone and Line in which were both unplugged. When I clicked on an empty area the disabled and disconnected devices is already checked and nothing else appears.
Then I downloaded Stereomixplus, but stereo mix doesn't show up.

Strange, most current sound chips are supporting Stereo Mix. Maybe its because the Creative SoundBlaster MB software is included, which provides it (Creative calls it "What You Hear"). Apparently the custom PC builder failed to include that. Did the PC come with the AS Rock install disc? If so, the Creative should be on the install disc. If the PC vendor did not supply that, go back to the PC vendor to get it.

I've located a CD Intel series IIH55-14b from ASRock. Should I put it in?
