Thermal Pads for 7870 GPU

The GPU is MSI Twin Frozr III

I want to replace the thermal pads due to they have a lot of dust on them which is causing problems with heat

I'm just lost on thermal pad thickness any help

If I understand you correctly your heat dissipate sinks under the fans are dirty (dusty). They can be cleaned without removing them with a brush and a can of air. Just remove the video card to do the cleaning.

Everything else is fine but the thermal pads that are on IC Memory & VRM are dirty there is crap on them

what matters is the surface between the pad and the memory/VRM and the surface between the pad and the heat sink. The sides aren't relevant for heat dissipation.

I washed with water a lot of gum-like thermal pads to "regenerate" them and they worked fine afterwards, but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you too. Can you post some pics?

I've seen thermal tape on evil bay in different thicknesses.

Does your thermal pads looking a bit like the attached pic?

If so, check the thickness and measure size, just with a meter.

You can find different size of thickness, 0,5mm, 1mm & 1,5mm.

I'll go for 1mm thick and those pads are soft and could not hurt when pressed on the Vram's. And i'll not use sided adhesive pads, just the common ones

Please note: This thermal pad can be compressed to half of its original height!

1) There seems to be set of 2 or 4 thermal pads, sized 120mm x 20mm that you could use scissors to cut the right size for you, if needed.

2)There 's 5W/mk type or 7W/mk type, and seems the 5W/mk is the most common.

I've by the way replace the thermal paste of the graphics card processor a little after bought mine but it is not a good idea for the Vram's!

Those ready thermal pads are OK...i've bought some for my motherboard mosfets...they do the job well.

Are you sure those are thermal pad? Pad that remove heat? They just look like a pad for a plastic cover not a heat sink. I'm trying to understand where the word Thermal come into play with little sticky pads on a plastic cover.
Teach me something folks.

If you look at the fourth shot, you can clearly see the thermal pads the OP mentionned that were dirt from dust and those he wants to change for new ones.

Those are sticky thermal pads made of very soft material (silicone touch feeling) and a little of fiber inside, for them not to stretch. they can be easily changed to new ones (non-conductive) and might be better quality and specially made for heat under high load.

I'm beginning to understand. Thank you.
I do wonder what those little pads fit against on the video card board. I do presume they fit against something hot and the tray is use to dissipate heat. Or could they be used as vibration dampers and the plate is use for air distribution over the whole card.
These are things I don't need to know. I'm just curious.
